ACNE PRONE SKINCARE ROUTINE

As we come to the end of 2016, I'm happy to say I have finally nailed my skincare routine. It hasn't been easy and I've tried a few products along the way but I've finally found a routine that works for me and my combination, acne prone skin.

You may have already read my previous post about my first experience with Murad and my facial, but a few months have past and I wanted to share an update of my routine with you.

Step 1: Cleansing

I should point out that I always use The Body Shop Camomile Balm to melt away my makeup for my first cleanse before going in with a Murad cleanser as a second cleanse.

Since October I've been using time Time Release Blemish Cleanser which I have been loving. It's targeted at those who suffer from adult acne, targeting breakouts with Salicylic Acid and preventing aging through hydration with Hyaluronic Acid. It works great for me because it targets blemishes without drying out my skin, which some acne targeted products I have tried previously do.

I was then kindly sent the AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser** a few weeks ago, an exfoliating cleanser containing Salicylic, Lactic and Glycolic Acid. All acids which increase the turnover of cells, smoothing out the texture of my skin and leaving me with a clearer complexion. I use this a couple of times a week, as it is fairly active so not one for everyday use.

Step 2: Treatment

First up is the Blemish Clearing Solution, a serum designed to reduce breakouts and irritation whilst preventing future blemishes. It's a light weight serum I use day and night which feels lovely on the skin and provides a little bit of hydration, a pea sized amount is enough to cover the whole face. I praise this serum for keeping my skin clearer than it has been in years, particularly between hormonal breakouts when those pesky blemishes flair up.

I've also been using my deluxe sample of the Hydro-Dynamic Quenching Essence which is gorgeous. Because my routine is mainly targeted towards my blemishes and combination skin, sometimes it can feel a little dehydrated. This little sample has given me that boost of hydration I need every now and then to keep my skin balanced. It's the first 'essence' I've ever used but it feels like a really light weight serum that my skin drinks up instantly. It's one I definitely to pick up the full size of.

When it comes to masks, these two from Murad are some of the best I have ever tried. My favourite is the Clarifying Maskit's a classic clay mask which tackles blemishes, noticeably shrinking them and reducing redness overnight and drawing out any other impurities. I use this every Sunday night, during my own 'Sunday Facial' routine.

The newest mack from Murad is the InstaMatte Oil-Control Mask**,  it's different to any other mask I've tried. A quick 3 minute gem with a gel texture that helps to remove the excess oil from the skin, leaving it lovely, clean and mattified. I've been using this as a part of my party prep routine, using it in the shower whilst getting ready for my night out and most recently my Christmas party. It helps to control the oils in my t-zone where I get slightly shiny throughout the day, It's a great option for those who love multi-masking.

Step 3: Hydrate | Protect

The final skincare step in the routine is always my Anti-Ageing Moisturiser with SPF 30, like the Time Release Blemish Cleanser it's targeted at those with adult acne; keeping pores as clear as possible, hydrating and of course the ever important SPF. It's a lovely moisturiser which isn't too heavy on the skin and absorbs into my skin fairly quickly.

Once I've given my skincare 10 minutes to sink in, I go in with my faithful primer, the Invisiblur Perfecting Shield**. It's one you've probably seen lots of YouTubers using, it is really worth the hype - I now never apply makeup without it. It's the first primer that I have believed in, it's a slight silicone texture and works nicely into the skin and I particularly love the 3-in-1 aspect; treating, blurring and protecting all in one product.

This may seem like a pretty long and over the top post for something that isn't sponsored. Although Murad have kindly sent me a few products (those marked with an asterisk), no one can argue with the results I have seen over the past 3 months.

On the right is a picture of my skin journey so far. I feel as though when you cover your blemishes well, people find it hard to understand the skin problems you are battling underneath. It can be very disheartening and make you feel as though you are overly conscious and sensitive. Looking at these images - although I still don't feel confident enough to go out without makeup on - I can see improvements everyday and now my makeup applies so much better over the skin, it looks nearly flawless.

Under my makeup, I still get the odd hormonal breakout around that time of the month and pigmentation from old blemishes but my breakouts are becoming less frequent, less violent and I have these Murad products to thank for that.
